IT’s actually funny. If a story in ficly is being criticized for something, it’s because I actually was trying to do that, so in a manner of speaking, it’s not really criticism. Just a matter of taste.

I say this because I was on a silent cinema bender, mostly Chaplin and Buster Keaton, some Laurel and Hardy, when I wrote this, so the slapstick element was actually intentional.

I love the line ‘Full fractal ahead’ and the idea of the ship coalescing on one reality out of many (that has quite a Douglas Adams feel to it). I also like the irony of Amigo being the cause of his own injuries, although in practice it seemed a little too slapstick.

I found this one interesting. In a way, it felt more like a character sketch of Pop than a story – and it was interesting to have such medieval fantasy elements intrude on the space fantasy of the Fractal Rangers.

I did get thrown off having one character named ‘Pop’ and one ‘Pip’ – I kept misreading each as the other.

There’s such a frantic energy to this piece, I really enjoyed it. Amigo and Pop are both very clearly realised characters, and I like the idea of someone who’s baseline unlucky but never very unlucky and often very lucky. I’m not sure ‘eternal luck’ is the best way to describe that, though.

I think sometimes you could get a greater effect if you were a bit more sparing with description, but it would be hard to pare it back without losing the energy.

Finally, I got a bit confused by the dialogue at the end – I think it’s Amigo and Pop speaking, but Amigo never gets identified.

Ah, that’s wacky and awesome (the reincarnation part). Like a giant looping infinity symbol. I’ve read the other stories and I’ll leave some comments.

I had a feeling the ending wouldn’t be too obvious. I was hoping the purple eyes would give it away. The Time Traveller died, and was reincarnated as his own mother. In the Alternate Ending section, he’s reincarnated as himself. Interestingly enough I recently watched this mindblowing movie by Gaspar Noe titled Enter the Void. It’s an interpretation of the Tibetan Book of the Dead. It chronicles a soul’s entrance into the Bardo and its subsequent exit. Though I’ve heard of the Book of the Dead, its details weren’t know. I found it intriguing that my little Time Traveller graphic piece echoed some of the ideas in it.

I might have written something about the Time Traveller. I’ve left so many storylines dangling in ficly. I remember suggesting something about expanding the profile space for ficly users to include the option of naming and linking storylines; the titles for the storylines themselves could be decided by a consensus of favorites or something like that.

The earliest stories are my favorites. I also have a group of multiversal travellers called The Fractal Rangers in a total of three stories I had a great time writing. Princess Pop is the spunky one. Archetype Amigo is miserable. I enjoyed it! There were times when I didn’t follow the story (particularly the ending), but I guess that’s par for the course for time travel. And I’m a sucker for science fantasy time travel: Doctor Who, the Shifter, whatever.
